Dorothy Doberstein Obituary
Dorothy Helen Doberstein (92) of Pepin, WI (formerly of Winona, MN) died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Pepin Health & Rehab in Pepin, WI. She was born September 6, 1924 in Gulfport, MS; daughter of Donavon & Carmelite (Roberts) O'Brien. When Dorothy was young the family moved to St. Charles, IL. Her family lived on a farm that she said always reminded her of Little House on the Prairie. She often spoke about walking to her one-room schoolhouse. She graduated from Mt. St. Mary-on-the-Fox High School in 1943. Dorothy always loved to cook and decided to train as a nun and cook in a boarding school. After a year, she was told she was too smart to be a cook. Not wanting to pursue a vocation as a teacher, she returned home.
On August 2, 1947 she married Paul G. Doberstein. They lived in Winona, MN where they raised their family. In 1980 they moved to Buffalo City where they owned the Buffalo City Resort. They later retired to Pepin before moving to St. Charles, MN in 2009 to be near their son, Jeff, and his wife, Rochelle. Paul died February 1, 2012. Dorothy became a resident of Pepin Health & Rehab in 2015.
Dorothy loved baking; she made and sold many wedding cakes and other baked goods. She also loved to cook Southern style foods. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and camping. She loved to spend time with her family. Her 90th birthday in St. Charles, MN with friends and family was one of her favorite memories.
She is survived by her children, John Doberstein of Houston, Texas, Paula Moham of Pepin, WI, Jim Doberstein of Superior, WI, Jeff (Rochelle) Doberstein of Plainview, MN; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Melody (Ron) Marcks of DeKalb, IL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; daughter, Patti Clement; parents; three brothers, Pat, Don and Mike O'Brien.
