Kathleen Sterry Obituary
Kathleen Ann Sterry (80) of Pepin, WI passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, 2016 surrounded by her family and friends at Hiwainen (Deborah Hines family home) in Nelson, WI. She was born April 24, 1935 in Eleva, WI; daughter of Lawrence and Evelyn (Berg) Helgeson.
She graduated from Independence High School. Following school she attended Buffalo County Normal where she received her teaching degree. On July 27, 1956 she married Allen Sterry in Chimney Rock Lutheran Church in Elk Creek, WI. Kathy taught at Pleasantville for a couple years before starting a family. Kathy and Allen lived in Pleasantville, Cream and Alma before moving to Pepin. They enjoyed camping and fishing with their family. Allen died in January of 1971.
Kathy worked various jobs in the area, along with being a teacher's aid at the school in Pepin. Kathy loved attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. She also enjoyed coaching and playing softball, sewing, shopping and playing cards.
She is survived by her children, James (Karen) Sterry of Pepin, WI, Rhonda (Steve) Johnson of New Market, MN, Brenda (David) Lerum of Pepin, WI, Lana (Brad) Wallin of Prescott, WI, Jerry (Tracy) Sterry of Pepin, WI; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon (John) Rud of Mondovi, WI; brother, Larry (Sharon) Helgeson of Eau Claire, WI; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Sterry; parents, Lawrence and Evelyn Helgeson; and brother, Lennis (Rose) Helgeson.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin, WI with Pastor Karna Marks officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin. Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand, WI is assisting the family.
