Preston Barber Obituary

Preston Lynn Barber (95) of Pepin, WI died Thursday, April 7, 2016 at his home. He was born March 7, 1921 in Arkansaw, WI; son of Earl and Della (Lord) Barber. He graduated from Arkansaw High School.

On September 1, 1948 Lynn married Dolores Peters at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin. Together they farmed in Lost Creek, raising hogs, chickens, sheep and dairy cattle. Lynn felt very strongly about being a good steward of the land, and received an award from the Soil Conservation Service for his efforts. He was very active in the school, serving on the board for many years. He also served on the council for Immanuel Lutheran Church.

After retiring from farming, Lynn and Dolores moved to the village of Pepin, Lynn worked at the Countryside Co-op and then as a handyman for the Pepin Manor. Dolores passed away February 6, 1989 after a long fight with breast cancer.

Lynn was always ready to take on any task his children or grandchildren needed help with. He made many woodworking projects over the years for his children and grandchildren, including cedar chests and rocking chairs. Lynn also enjoyed baking chocolate chip cookies for his great-grandchildren, canning peaches and freezing strawberries. He especially liked spending time with his dear friend, Darlene Jahnke.

He is survived by his children, Dolorah Barber of Shirley, NY, Roselyn (Gene) Teslow of Decorah, IA, Kathleen (Lynn) Johnson of Pepin, WI, Donald (Amy) Barber of Walworth, NY; three grandchildren, Hilary Teslow, Rachel (Matt) Gens, Preston (Abby) Johnson; seven great-grandchildren, Lucas, Ethan and Samuel Gens, Jacie, Nora and Finley Johnson, Hattie Teslow; special friend, Darlene Jahnke and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; parents; brothers, Cecil, Edward, Erle, George and Paul Barber; sisters, Frances Finch and Hazel Toth.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin, WI followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Pepin Lions Club (300 8th Street)from 12:00 - 2:00 PM.
