Wayne Bocksell Obituary

Wayne LeRoy Bocksell, age 80, of Plum City passed away peacefully with his wife, Joyce by his side on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. Angels carried his soul to Jesus in Heaven.

Wayne was born in Pepin, WI on September 7, 1936; the son of Kenneth and Ruby (Anderson) Bocksell. Wayne attended grade school at the Barry Corner School. He graduated from Pepin High School in 1954. Wayne was employed in Minneapolis about 5 years before he entered the armed services. He was sworn into the U.S. Army on April 8, 1959. After basic training he was stationed in Augsburg, Germany for one and one-half years. Wayne traveled to Germany on the U.S. Patch ship and returned home on the U.S. Buckner. Wayne was in the 24th Infantry Division, Artillary. He was discharged in March 1961. Then, in August 1961 he was called back into active duty, because of the Berlin Crisis and was stationed at Ft. Polk, LA for one year until discharged in August 1962. Wayne was a member of the American Legion in Wabasha, MN and the 544th Ordnance Company in Wabasha, MN.

Wayne married Joyce Swenson on April 27, 1968 at the Lund Mission Covenant Church. They farmed on Goat Back Road in rural Pepin. Olaf and Mary Bocksell immigrated from Sweden in 1872 and began the heritage Bocksell farm. Wayne truly enjoyed the farm life for 39 years. Wayne and Joyce were blessed with three children, Mark, Christa and Paul and behind every good kid is a great Dad.

Wayne was an active member of the Lund Mission Covenant Church where he served as a trustee and for 38 years served by taking the offering. He was also on the Marie Lund Cemetery Board for many years. His church meant everything to him, he once said. Wayne's great-grandfather, Olaf Bocksell, was one of the charter members of Lund Mission Covenant Church in 1874.

Wayne was a kind, gentle husband, father and grandpa who loved Jesus and his precious family. Two words that truly describe Wayne are "He Prayed." Wayne enjoyed being part of his grandchildren's activities, programs and sports events.

Wayne enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. He only missed deer hunting when he was in the Army. Wayne enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers and Badgers' games. He also enjoyed riding Harley. A special love between a master and a dog named Shawna, has been evident for almost 11 years as she followed Wayne everywhere and now truly grieves for Wayne.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce (Swenson) Bocksell of Plum City; three children, Mark (Jennifer) of Stockholm, Christa of Plum City and Paul (Angela) of Pepin; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Reeden and Kenzie Bocksell and Lukas, Weston, Ava and Dahlia Bocksell; brothers, Roger of Osseo, MN, Vern of Plum City, Leslie (Elaine) of Plymouth, MN, Dale (Cindy) of Flower Mound, TX; brother-in-law, Bill Gray of Delano, MN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Stan and Cheryl Swenson of Eau Claire and Pastor Dave and Carol Peterson of Omaha, NE, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Ruby (Anderson) Bocksell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stanley Sr. and Helen Swenson; sister, Elaine (Bocksell) Gray and sister-in-law, Joyce E.(Olson) Bocksell and a nephew, Ben Peterson.
