Linda Lee DeLong (74) of Durand died Friday, December 8th, 2023 at Advent Health in Durand. Linda was born March 15, 1949 in Plum City, Wisconsin daughter of Ed and Arlene (Weissinger) Klein. Linda attended elementary school at St. Johns Catholic School then attended and graduated from the Plum City High school in 1967. After graduation she worked for Red Wing Shoe Factory for 3 years.
On January 11, 1969, Linda married Daniel H. DeLong at St. Johns’ Catholic Church in Plum City. They moved to a home just outside of Durand where they lived for the rest of their lives. While their children Becky and Wade were small, Linda was a stay at home mom. Later she did house cleaning, worked at Econo Foods in the bakery for 16 years, worked for Human Services taking clients on outings. This was never just a job. It was outings with friends.
When St. Mary’s was looking for a new hot lunch cook, Linda answered the call. She worked for 6 years taking care of her kids, making sure they had lunches cooked with love and care.
Linda was very active at St. Mary’s church doing whatever was needed. She helped with the youth group for many years, chaperoning many trips. For many years she was the Chairman of Girls Religious awards for the Diocese of La Crosse. She helped many girls earn their religious awards.
Linda was a Girl Scout leader and troop organizer for the Durand area scouts. She also served as a Cub Scout leader. Later she joined the Durand Area Optimists. She served as president and board member. Linda loved doing things for the children here in the Durand area.
Linda is survived by her husband, Dan; children, Becky (Dennis) Breezee of Durand, Wade ( Brenda) DeLong of Elk Mound; grandchildren, Ashley (Nate) Multhauf, Jordon (Beth) DeLong, Tyler Breezee, Erin DeLong, Josh (Maddi) Draeger, and Adam Draeger; great-grandchild, Cecelia Draeger; siblings, twin sister, Mary Matzek, John (Nancy) Klein, Alan (Sandy) Klein, Harry (Jan) Klein, Susan Sanders, Shirley (Tod) McKune, Andy (Sandy) Klein, Michael (Kanya) Klein; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Arlene Klein; sister, Sandy Finstad; brother-in-law, Doug Matzek; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harrison and Mary DeLong.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, December 15 at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Clearview Cemetery in Eau Galle.
