Dan Serene Obituary

Dan M. Serene, age 80, of River Falls, WI, formerly of Pepin, WI passed away on Wed., Jan. 23, 2013 at the Kinnic Long Term Care facility in River Falls where he had been for fourteen days.
Dan was born on Nov. 5, 1932 to Charles and Bernice (Fuller) Serene in Pepin. He attended Pepin Area Schools. While in high school he qualified twice for the State Track Meet in Madison. He graduated from Pepin High School in 1951. Dan joined the Navy and served on the USS Lexington during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1957. He attended college at Wisconsin Institute of Technology in Platteville for one year before transferring to the University of Wisconsin River Falls. Dan graduated in 1961 with a BS Degree - majoring in Math and Physics and a minor in Chemistry. In 1964 Dan went to work for Dairyland Power Cooperative. He worked at the power plant in Genoa and the Main Office in LaCrosse before being able to return to Pepin in 1978 to live and work at the Alma Power Plant. He retired from Dairyland in 1995 after 31 years.
On June 17, 1967 Dan was united in marriage to Darlene Westberg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin. Their son John was born in 1976 when they lived in LaCrosse.
Dan served on the Immanuel Lutheran Church council and the Pepin Area School Board. He belonged to the Free Masons 32 Degrees and was a very active member of the Maiden Rock American Legion Post 158.
In 2005, Dan and Darlene moved to River Falls to become daycare providers for their grandsons Jayden and Carter. They became very busy grandparents.
Dan is survived by his wife Darlene, his son John and daughter-in-law Kim and their wonderful grandsons Jayden and Carter all of River Falls. Dan is also survived by his brother Tom and sister-in-law Marlys of Pepin. Many nieces and nephews will sadly miss their Uncle Dan.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Bernice Serene, his
brother Bob Serene, his sister Betty Lou Quaderer, brother-in-law Galen Quaderer and sister-in-law Mary Lou Serene.
Memorial services for Dan will be held at 11:00 am on January 26th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin with Pastor Karna Baseman of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin and Pastor Mark Hall of Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls officiating. Military rites by the Maiden Rock American Legion Post 158. Burial will be in the spring at Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
