Dixie Vida Carothers (70) of Alma, WI died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Mayo Health System in Eau Claire, WI. She was born September 12, 1942 in Arkansaw, WI; daughter of Paul and Nellie (Maxwell) Martin. She grew up in rural Arkansaw and attended the Plummer Grade School and Arkansaw High School.
Dixie married LaVern Carothers on September 24, 1960 in Arkansaw, WI. They lived in Anchorage, AK for two years while LaVern was in the military, and then made their home in Alma, WI. Dixie worked for over thirty years at the St. Elizabeth Nursing Home in Wabasha, MN. She enjoyed farming, gardening and going to their lake home in Bloomer with her loving husband of 52 years and her dog, Smokie, who was always at her side.
She is survived by her husband, LaVern Carothers of Alma, WI; sister, Elaine Clark of Durand, WI; brother, Howard (Mary) Martin of Arkansaw, WI; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marlene (Ron) Kralewski, Sandra (Floyd) Hillstrom, Ray (Linda) Carothers, Robert (Judy) Carothers, Ruth (Joe) Sinz, Donna Carothers, Yvonne Sullivan and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Nellie (Maxwell) Martin; sister, Kathleen Ring; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Wanda Carothers; brothers-in-law, Duaine and David Carothers.

Memorial services will be 12:00 pm Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand, WI with Pastor Tom Elliott officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 until time of services at the funeral home on Saturday. A private family burial will be at North Branch Cemetery in rural Urne, WI.
