Eugene John Kannel (83) of Plum City, WI died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Plum City Care Center. He was born July 28, 1929 in Plum City, WI; one of three sons born to George and Pearl Brunner Kannel. He attended Union School No.1. Following school Gene worked on the family farm before joining the U.S. Army where he was stationed in France during the Korean War. He then returned to the family farm where he farmed with his brothers Gary and George. Together they would buy tractors to fix up and sell. They received the Century Old Farm award from the governor.
The three brothers also worked a livestock trucking business together. Gene was a good mechanic who enjoyed reading tractor magazines, watching westerns and collecting toy tractors.
He is survived by his brother, Gary Kannel of Plum City, WI, and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Pearl Brunner Kannel; brother, George Kannel Jr.
Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Monday, June 10, 2013 at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand, WI with Pastor Dan Richardson officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Free Home Cemetery in Plum City, WI. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Monday.
