Karl Strand Obituary

Karl Konrad Strand (79) of Arkansaw, WI died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the Plum City Care Center. He was born on January 21, 1936 in Pratt, Kansas. He was the only child of Harry and Goldie (Bergsten) Strand. Karl was raised in Poplar, WI and Maple, WI; where he graduated from North Western High School in 1954. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years. Karl spent his adult life farming and milking cows; working for the U.S. Steel and was also the Maintenance Technician at the American Lutheran Nursing Home in Menomonie, WI for 16 years. He also owned his own electric business, Strand Electric from 1975 until 1990. He later lived and retired at his home in Arkansaw, WI.
Karl married Joan Peterson and they later divorced. Karl and Joan had 3 children; Daniel Strand of Mapleton, MN, Pam Dittbrenner of Cumberland, WI and Leta Wrightsman of Medford, WI. Karl then married Joyce Beebe who had 3 children of her own, Sheila Wall of Eau Claire, WI, Vicki Jo Lambert of Red Wing, MN and Diane Beebe whom preceded Karl in death along with his wife, Joyce. He is survived by his children and many grandchildren.
He attended the Lund Mission Covenant Church and had served on the church board. He had also been active as a volunteer for various church and charity organizations including the WWIB radio station in Eau Claire and assisting with food distribution through a church in Whitehall. Karl's favorite charity was Apple Pregnancy Care Center in Eau Claire. He successfully raised money for their annual walk event known by him as ‘The Apple Roll'. He attended that event annually even while residing at the nursing home. He was very active in the Christian Outdoorsmen for many years and made annual fishing trips to Canada with them until his stroke prevented travel. He attended their annual wild game feed even after residing at the nursing home. Karl enjoyed photography, collecting stamps and coins as well as frequently fishing on the Brule River. He also had a love for gardening and flowers.
