Lela Eggenberger Obituary
Lela Mary Eggenberger (93) of rural Maiden Rock died Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City, WI. She was born November 27, 1922 in Arkansaw, WI; daughter of John and Lucille (Betterly) Longsdorf. She attended Oak Center grade school and graduated from Arkansaw High School.
On November 27, 1944 Lela married Earl Eggenberger at her home on Columbia Heights, Frankfort Township, Pepin County. Lela and Earl lived in Plum City for several years before moving to farm in Salem Township, Pierce County. Earl died on April 11, 2003.
Lela was a very active member of the Community of Christ Congregations in Arkansaw and Red Wing. She enjoyed quilting, doing crafts, reading, gardening and baking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known as "Grandma" by many, with cookies and chocolate cake for all.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry (Twylah) Eggenberger of rural Maiden Rock, WI, Kenneth Eggenberger of Hudson, WI, Mark (Cheryl) Eggenberger of Freeman, MO; daughters, Jean (Derryl) Carson of Apple Valley, MN, Patricia (John) Bert of Dallas, TX; daughter-in-law, Judy Eggenberger of Plum City, WI; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl Eggenberger; son, Steven Eggenberger; daughter-in-law, Sharon Eggenberger; brothers, John, Florian and Lester Longsdorf; sisters, Peggy Swanson and Flossie Caturia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Community of Christ Church in Arkansaw with Pastor Daniel Richardson and Pastor Becky Turner officiating. Burial will be in Arkansaw Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand, WI and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
