Lorena L. Richardson
Lorena Laura Richardson (96) of Durand, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood, Wisconsin. She was born June 24, 1915 in Waterville Township, Pepin County, Wisconsin; daughter of Steven and Mary (Goyette) LaPean.
Lorena grew up in the Arkansaw, WI area. She and her mother moved to Nennah, WI where they both worked. After finishing school, Lorena went into nurse's training. They moved back to Durand where she was employed at the Shulberg Hospital in Durand for four years.
Lorena married Elwood Richardson on November 23, 1937. They lived near Pepin where they farmed. In 1939, they moved to Durand, and she returned to work at the Shulberg Hospital for two more years.
In 1942 Lorena and Elwood moved to Two Rivers, Wisconsin. She was employed at the Municipal Hospital on the Medical/Surgical floors for nine years. She then accepted a position as Office Nurse for Dr. D.A. Kuljis, where she worked for twenty-six years, until retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the Manitowoc Assistants Society and also belonged to the State and National Chapters. She held the office of secretary for two terms and president elect and president of the Manitowoc Chapter for two years each.
Lorena and Elwood moved back to Durand after they both retired in 1979 and resided at the Riverview apartments on Main Street. They were members of the Durand United Methodist Church. Elwood passed away August 27, 1993. In 2006 Lorena moved to The Home Place in Durand.
Lorena is survived by nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the many dear friends, loved ones, doctors and nurses she worked with through her many years of nursing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood; her parents, Steven and Mary (Goyette) LaPean; four sisters, Bessie (Will) Keeler/(Wilfred) Patnode, Lydia (Ray) Patnode, Margaret (Peter Sr.) Hartley, Ruby (Andrew) St. Germain and two brothers, Frank (Melvina) LaPean, Sr. and Richard (Gladys) LaPean.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Durand. Pastor Bruce Gardow officiating. Burial will be at the Arkansaw Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.at the church on Saturday. Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand is assisting the family.
