Lyle E. Snyder, age 93, of Durand, WI, died Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the Plum City Care Center. He was born October 27, 1926 in Durand, WI; the oldest of eight children born to Earl and Olive (Weber) Snyder.
Lyle lived his entire life in Durand. He attended St. Mary's School. From 1944 to 1946 Lyle served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii during World War II. On August 8, 1953 he married Betty Lue Breitung in Milwaukee, WI. Lyle adopted Betty's son, Ranny in 1955.
Lyle went to work for his dad's business, where he was a steeple jack and painter. In 1965, he started working with the US Army Corp of Engineers, where he was a dam operator and lockman in Alma, WI until his retirement in 1995.
During winter months, Lyle and Betty spent time in Brownville, TX. Summer time, weekends and holidays, they spent at their cabin on Balsom Lake. Lyle remained active, deer hunting, bowling, fishing, playing pool, golfing and enjoyed drinking an Old Milwaukee.
Lyle was a member of the Durand American Legion Post #181 and a member of the Durand Sportsmen's Club.
He is survived by his sisters, Faye Johnson and Norita Colstrom, both of Durand, WI; brother, Arnold Snyder of Minneapolis, MN; many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Olive (Weber) Snyder; wife, Betty; son, Ranny; sisters, Delores Shaw, Darlene Bauer, and Jean Hogen; brother, Myron Snyder
