Marvin Heltne Obituary

Marvin Theodore Heltne (86) of Durand, WI died Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the Neighbors of Dunn County in Menomonie, WI. He was born November 21, 1932 in Modena Township, Buffalo County, WI; son of Erick and Louise (Swangstu) Heltne.

He attended North Branch School and graduated from Nelson High School in 1950. Marvin farmed on the home farm until entering the US Army in 1955. He was stationed in France. After his discharge in 1957, he returned to Durand where he worked at Bauer Built for six years.

On August 31, 1959 he married Vivian Bignell at the Methodist Church in Durand. They lived in Durand until 1964 when they moved to Inver Grove Heights, MN. Marvin worked at W.F. Smith Tire and Battery, Brad Ragan and Construction Tire all based in St. Paul. In 1972, they moved to Prescott where they lived until returning to Durand in 1988 where Marvin worked for Bauer Built Retread.

Marvin loved old time music, cars (old and new). He was a terrific husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of Lyster Lutheran Church in Nelson.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vivian of Menomonie, WI; son, Billy Joe (Betty Dean) Heltne of Elk Mound, WI; daughter, Sheri (Boyd) Huppert of Edina, MN and son, Barry (Melanie Lubich) Heltne of Prescott, WI; grandchildren, Michael, Molly and Maria Heltne , all of Elk Mound, WI, Samuel (Brianna McLarty) Huppert of Omaha, NE, Matthew (fiancé Nicole Lang) Huppert of Chicago, IL, Adam (Bridget Onan) Heltne of Houlton, WI , Katelyn (Bryan) Early of Prescott, WI; two great grandchildren, Issac and Anna Heltne of Houlton, WI. Brother, Oscar Heltne of West St. Paul, MN ; sister, Ellen Frilseth of North Oaks, MN; brothers-in-law, Ken (Judy) Bignell of Surprise, AZ, Clarence (Darlene) Bignell of Knapp, WI, Thomas (Donna) Bignell of Peoria, IL, Steven (Joan) Bignell of Plymouth, WI; sister-in-law, Donna Bignell of Westfield, WI and brother-in-law, Robert (Susan) Risler of Eau Claire, WI.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Erick and Louise (Swangstu) Heltne; father and mother-in-law, Abner and Juanita (Scott) Bignell; brothers, Lenard Heltne, Elvin Heltne; sister, Olive Erickson; brothers-in-law, Charles Erickson, Paul Frilseth, Paul Bignell; sisters-in-law, Gladys Heltne, Evelyn Heltne, Darlene Heltne and Shirley Risler.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Lyster Lutheran Church in rural Nelson with Pastor Michael Vetsch officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand is assisting the family.
