Merlin Wahlund Obituary

Merlin Elmer Wahlund (91) of Pepin, WI died Friday, October 14, 2016 at Pepin Health & Rehab in Pepin, WI. He was born June 6, 1925 in Frankfort Township, Pepin County, WI; son of Rueben and Esther (Nelson) Wahlund. Merlin graduated from Arkansaw High School.

On November 27, 1947, he married Arlene Larson while he was serving in the U.S. Army in Indianapolis, IN. They lived all their married life in Pepin. Arlene died in May of 2013.
Merlin worked various jobs in the area.

Merlin and his brother Archie started the first Little League in Pepin. He was manager of the Pepin Town Baseball Team for many years. For years he umpired for softball, baseball and league games until his health prevented him from doing so. He enjoyed doing wood work and working with leather. Merlin was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pepin and the Maiden Rock American Legion Post #158.

He is survived by his children, Linda (Lon) Meixner; Larry (Diane) Wahlund, all of Pepin, WI; five grandchildren, Aaron (Mary), Amy, Brian (Rachel), Jason (Sarah) and Joleen (Mike); twelve great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene; brother, Archie Byington and sisters, Ethel Anderson and Fern Longsdorf.
