Norman John Hoffman (89) of Arkansaw passed away peacefully with his family at his side Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. He was born September 29, 1923 in Plum City, WI; son of Marshall and Lizzie Dohr Hoffman. He graduated from Plum City High School where he excelled in mathematics and boxing. Following graduation Norman helped on the family farm until joining the U.S. Navy in 1944. He received special training in naval gunnery and communications.
On December 6, 1946 he married Beverly Coburn at the Arkansaw United Methodist Church. Norman worked various jobs before starting at Safeway Creameries in Arkansaw and Durand where he was a licensed butter maker. He won several Butter Maker of the Year awards. Norman worked for Safeway Creameries until 1969 when he left to concentrate on farming operations and a custom painting business.
He enjoyed various activities including, fishing, hunting, trapping and playing cards. He was an avid sports fan. He was especially proud of his ownership of stock of the Green Bay Packers. Norman supported all of his grandchildren's academic and sporting activities. He enjoyed spending time visiting friends and family. Norman was extremely proud of his family, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Randy (JoAnn) Hoffman of Waunakee, WI, Jeff Hoffman & Patricia Bodette of Port Edwards, WI, Pamela Hoffman & Bob Miller of Monona, WI, Patrick (Melissa) Hoffman of Spencer, WI; grandchildren, Eric Hoffman, Laura (Cody) Stingley, Ryan (Sarah) Hoffman, Brandon (Miranda) Hoffman, Wyatt Miller, Rebbeca Miller, Kyle Hoffman, Hailey Hoffman; great-grandchildren, Paige, Claire and Katie Hoffman; brothers, Gordon (Eula) Hoffman of Arkansaw, WI, Lowell (Irene) Hoffman of Plum City, WI, Vaughn (Murial) Hoffman of Durand, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Hoffman; parents, Marshall and Lizzie Dohr Hoffman; brothers, Miles Hoffman, Neil Hoffman; sisters, Gladys Flieshauer and Verona Brady; and an infant brother.
Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May13, 2013 at the Arkansaw United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Balson officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Arkansaw Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand is assisting the family.
