Vaughn Ernest Seyffer died unexpectedly in the same home he was born in nearly 83 years before. Vaughn lived his entire life on Big Hill Farm from his birth on June 17, 1933 to his death on June 9, 2016. He often said that he "didn't get very far in life" as he only moved from the upstairs bedroom to the downstairs bedroom. Vaughn attended Big Hill School in rural Pepin and graduated from Pepin High School in 1951. He married Louetta Thompson on May 7, 1957. Together they farmed and raised their children Mark and Dawn in rural Pepin. Vaughn was hard working and humble, a quiet man of great character. He kept his feet on the ground but his head was often in the clouds as he loved aviation. He was a lifetime member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) and his proudest moment was when he flew solo for the first time. He attended fly ins all over the area and went to the annual EAA convention for many years. He was an Amateur Radio operator, now a Silent Key. His call was N9LHW. Vaughn could fix anything. He loved woodworking and some of his happiest times were spent working in his shop. Vaughn is survived by his wife, Louetta, children Mark (Kitty) Seyffer of Eau Claire, Dawn (Brian) Caturia and grandchildren Chris and Megan Caturia of Plum City, sister LaVerle Hince of Pepin, brother Archie (Maxine) Seyffer of Arkansaw and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Florence (Jahnke) Seyffer and brother-in-law Vernon Hince.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Sabylund Lutheran Church in rural Stockholm with Pastor Dave Sands officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin, WI. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand is assisting the family.
