Merle Leroy Stewart, 86, of Hudson, formerly of River Falls, WI, died peacefully Friday, March 18, 2022 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN. He was born June 2, 1935, in Maxville Prairie, Buffalo County, WI; son of John and Edith (Johnson) Stewart.
He graduated from Arkansaw High School, where he met JoAnn Coburn. He also enlisted in the United States Air Force.
On February 5, 1956, he married JoAnn Coburn at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They owned the Stockholm Café, and the Short Stop in Stockholm, WI. Merle worked driving semi for many years of his life. They enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, and sold Colorado peaches together. Riding motorcycles with their friends was a passion. He was most grateful for the friendships they built along the way.
After JoAnn's passing Merle sold his home and moved to Woodland Hill Assisted Living in Hudson, WI, where he enjoyed meeting some new friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Stewart of Woodbury, MN, and Kelly Stewart of River Falls,WI; special son-in-law Jim (Kathy) Rodester; grandchildren Leann (Tyler) Jenson, Eric Rodewald(Carly), Patsi (Jim) Evans, Sally Stewart Olson, and Haley Stewart; step-grandchildren, Jacob(Gina)Hinrichs, Emmy (Luke) Husfloen; great-grandchildren Annalise, Taryn and Sophia Larson,Harper Jenson, Leo Jenson, and Alexia, Lily and Audrey Evans, Jewels and Chance Olson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith (Johnson) Stewart; wife, JoAnn Coburn Stewart; son, Steven; infant grandson, Joseph Rodewald; and step great-grandson, Logan Hinrichs.
