Michael Hartung Obituary
Michael Paul Hartung (89) of Arkansaw, WI died Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand. He was born September 26, 1922 in Arkansaw, Wisconsin; son of George and Mary Ellen (Ella) Meagher Hartung. He was raised in Arkansaw, where he remained all of his life.
Mike worked as a mason and carpenter. He had a trout pond for conservation purposes; he also had a maple syrup bush in his earlier years. He sold the home farm in 1968 to Bill Schraeder who still lives there today. He also spent time in Alaska with his brother Roland. Later in life he was a trapper and sold ginseng for a living. Mike was a big horse shoe player, entering many tournaments. As a young man he used to get together with neighbors to play horseshoes on Sunday mornings, often forgetting to go home for Sunday lunch. He enjoyed the outdoors, a cold beer and Packer football. His extended family, who lovingly called him "second pa" enjoyed many good years and memories with Mike. He spent holidays, birthdays, graduations, births of grandkids and sadly, deaths with them. He taught a few of the children how to drive. He enjoyed a good game of cards and he was always up for a good joke or two. Mike was very quiet and soft spoken, never known to raise his voice. He was loved and will be missed by all his friends and family.

A Memorial gathering will be held from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012 with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Dan Richardson at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand. Burial will be at Arkansaw Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
