Roger Franklin Owen, 88, of Durand, WI passed away Friday, July 28, 2023 at Mayo Health Sytems in Eau Claire, WI. He was born March 6, 1935 in Maxville Township, Buffalo County, WI; son of Robert and Clara (Hermundson) Owen.
He graduated from Durand High School in 1953. Roger was named the school’s Homecoming King. Following high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture Short Course, in Madison, WI.
In 1956, he was awarded the Degree of American Farmer, at the National Convention of the Future Farmers of America (FFA).
On May 23, 1959, he married Sharon Olson, at the Little Elk Creek Church, in rural Menomonie. They farmed at “Sunny Ridge Farms” in Durand, where Roger raised pure bred hogs and also raised dairy cattle.
Roger enjoyed attending and showing at hog shows. He judged at county fairs, as well as serving on the Buffalo County Fair Board Council. He was a long time bowler at Club 10 and also a member of Lyster Lutheran Church.
He loved to watch the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers. Roger also enjoyed following the local high school sports.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Mike) Glaus of Rosemount, MN; son, Jeffrey Owen of Durand, WI; grandchildren, Brandon Bauer, Garrett (Casie) Glaus, Brianna Glaus (fiance’ Alex Hamre), Gavin Owen and Alyssa Owen; great-grandson, Griffyn Glaus; brother, Bill (Karen) Owen; sister, Kathy (Jim) Kees; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Cindy; parents, Robert and Clara Owen; son-in-law, Kevin Bauer.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Lyster Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Vetsch officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
